The Emotional and Physical Toll of Stress In a 2019 Gallup survey of moods around the globe, 55% of Americans said they had felt stressed the previous day – much higher than the global average of 33%. For example, loneliness is a significant issue that has roughly the same health impact as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
